Becky Fast is proud to call Johnson County home.
Fast has a long history of public service. She served two terms on the Roeland Park City Council. Fast was also elected unanimously to serve as the Roeland Park City Council President.
During her tenure, she spearheaded the renovation of the City’s parks, the community center, and the aquatic center, which had endured years of neglect and deterioration.
Fast’s extensive public service career in local, state, and federal government has honed her experience in coordinating government entities to deliver quality services to residents.
Fast was elected unanimously by her peers to serve as the City Council President.
Becky is dedicated to improving the community for everyone’s benefit.
Becky’s educational journey began as an elementary education teacher, inspired by her mother who was public school third grade teacher for over 30 years. Becky’s commitment to community service led her then to pursue master’s degrees in social work and public administration from the University of Kansas.
After graduation, she worked as a public policy analyst at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare, improving services for older adults and persons with disabilities. She also taught human service classes at KU and Washburn University. In 2009, she was honored as the Social Worker of the Year and recognized in the United States Congressional Record for her exceptional public service.
Becky then obtained her clinical counseling license and provided mental health support to families. Recently, she served as an executive director for a professional social work association and spearheaded the passage of four landmark laws to expand access to mental health care.
Becky frequently testified at legislative committee hearings and at State Capitol rallies to improve the delivery and access of mental health, child welfare, and senior services across Kansas.
Becky, passionate about improving her community, used her public policy experience as the Director of Constituent Services for former Congressman Dennis Moore representing Kansas’ 3rd District.
She successfully helped Northeast Johnson County cities access vital federal funding for infrastructure needs, including roads, flood control, and stormwater management.
Her work and coordination ensured the County’s cities addressed critical needs without shifting costs onto to local families and taxpayers.
Becky cares deeply about her community and gives back through many volunteer efforts.
Becky is deeply committed to her community and volunteers extensively.
She serves on the Shawnee Mission School District Trailwood Elementary Site Council and has participated in the Shawnee Mission School District MVP (my volunteer pal) program and volunteered at her neighborhood school.
Becky is a graduate of the Johnson County Citizens Academy and the Northeast Johnson County Chamber leadership training program.
She is an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village.
Becky has also served on committees with the United Way of Greater Kansas City and on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Families for Public Education and the Drug and Alcoholism Council of Johnson County.
