Local Decisions Shape Everyday Costs

Navigating Johnson County through challenging times requires fiscal responsibility and accountability. During my term in office:

  • Maintained Triple-A bond rating for 18 consecutive years reflecting strong financial management

  • Delivered during my two terms in office, six mill levy reductions in eight years, saving residents $41 million.

• Created property tax rebate program for seniors

Becky is showing up and standing up for:

    • Investing in our transportation corridors including public transit options is key to economic success.

    • Improving our sewers, roads, and bridges as delayed maintenance leads to costly repairs and higher taxes.

    • Supported the expanded development of our New Century Airport Commerce Center which has resulted in over 4,000 new good paying jobs..

    • Led the County in planning to allow solar energy opportunities.

    • Championed transitioning to renewable energy and the County now receives 50% of its energy through renewable energy resulting in tax savings and efficiencies in building operations.

    • Advocated for stormwater management projects to address water quality and native landscaping to address erosion, water pollution, and residential flooding.

    • Led the expansion of recycling specifically hazardous waste to move to a new expanded site.

    • Voted to reduce the mill levy five out of 7 budget cycles to reduce the tax burden on homeowners.

    • Brought forth addressing housing affordability through expanding home repair, weatherization services, and an awarding winning eviction meditation program.

    • Addressing the need to increase housing supply and housing options attainable for all income level households to raise a family and aging in place.

    • Protecting and preserving our emergency medical system and public health is one of the most solemn duties of any elected official.

    • I have championed specialized crisis mental health teams that bring together our 911 staff, paramedics, mental health and aging staff, and nurses to work in partnership with our first responders.

    • I champion improvements to our mental health crisis service system, including the establishment of a youth crisis stabilization support service center.

    • Expanded our aging services through additional investments in home-based supports to assist older adults maintain self-sufficiency and independence.

    • Prioritize what actually helps people

    • Invest in long-term savings, not short-term fixes

    • Spending must be continuously scrutinized and managed with the utmost goal of cost-effectiveness and service efficiency.

    • As your Commissioner, I will be a prudent steward of your tax dollars balancing fiscal accountability with excellent community services to attract business, high paying jobs, and quality public education.

    • Ensuring maximum value for every tax dollar helps Johnson County continue to keep a Triple A Bond rating. Johnson County is one of 42 counties in the nation that receives the AAA bond rating. The highest bond rating possible enables the County to pay a lower interest rate on its bonds, attract investors, and save taxpayer dollars.

    • Maintaining and improving the county's infrastructure - parks, libraries, walkable and bikeable neighborhood options.
